Cells are living things and just like any other living thing, cells will eventually die. What happens to the genetic code they are carrying when this happens? How do they ensure that a new cell will carry on where they left off? Mitosis, the process of cell reproduction, is how!

In the digital version of this middle school mitosis lesson, students will engage in several activities in which they digitally manipulate chromosome icons to help them conceptualize the very basics of the mitosis process.

This is a basic lesson about mitosis, designed with middle school students and middle school standards in mind. The focus of the lesson is on giving students a firm understanding about the outcome of the process (this lesson does not focus on or include the names of the mitosis stages).
