Exploring Cells Under the Microscope

Exploring the microscopic world is a truly magical experience for students! It’s amazing to discover a world, filled with living and non-living entities, that is beyond the scope of our naked eye. For many students, observing the microscopic world is an adventure they can take as part of their life science courses. But, in some cases, be it lack of resources or even the current situation of teaching through distance learning, it becomes harder to share this experience with our students.

Thanks to technology, we now have the option of using our smart phone devices as microscopes. Device attachments are sold on Amazon and there is even a relatively inexpensive way to make your own device (you can take a look at this option here). But, even without these options, that is no reason to deny students the opportunity to visualize the microscopic world, especially when tackling the concept of cells.

The following two videos showcase animal and plant cells under the microscope, highlighting for students the details of the cells that can only be seen under a microscope. This is a fantastic way for students to experience the microscopic world of cells when other options aren’t available.
